HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 369 1 Sept 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:
Sergeant JOHN A. REHM, RA13442333, Armor, Tank Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the early morning of 17 July 1953, as a platoon size task force of tanks were moving up a road in the vicinity of Kundong-Myon, Korea, the lead tnak hit an antitank mine. The explosion injured two of the crew members and disabled the tank. Sergeant REHM immediately dismounted from his tank which was behind the lead tank, and began directing the removal of the other tnaks from the mine field. The enemy unleashed heavy barrages of artillery and mortar fire in the mined area, but Sergeant REHM, braving the intense shell fire, continued to work tirelessly in removing the tanks from the mined area. After he had skillfully helped to clear a safe lane through the mine field, he directed the evacuation of the disabled tank and its crew. Sergeant REHM'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Pennsylvania.
