HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 251 12 July 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded posthumously to the following named enlisted man:
Sergeant MAR E. STRAUB, RA13252203, Armor, Tank Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the afternoon of 10 June 1953, a friendly raiding party attacked the enemy troops on Hill "412" in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea. Sergeant STRAUB was commanding a gun carrier in a stationary position on Eagle's Nest, a high point overlooking the area of the attack. Immediately, he gave fire direction commands to his crew who laid down devastating supporting fire on the hostile troops and fortifications. The enemy then subjected his position to an intense mortar and artillery barrage. Although exposed to this fire, Sergeant STRAUB continued directing fire which prevented the hostile force from sending reinforcements to the defending enemy troops on the hill. Sergeant STAUB'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Pennsylvania.
