HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 465 29 October 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named oficer and enlisted men:
Sergeant (then Private First Class) ROBERT W. IVES, US52211460, Armor, Tank Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the afternoon of 10 June 1953, in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea, United Nations forces commenced a raid on enemy held Hill "412". Sergeant IVES was serving as gunner on an M-16 gun carrier supporting the raiders from "Eagle's Nest", a high position overlooking the area of attack. With disregard for his personal safety, Sergeant IVES bravely delivered rapid and accurate fire on the defensive fortifications. Although the enemy directed heavy concentrations of artillery and mortar fire in the immediate area, Sergeant IVES courageously remainded in his exposed gunner's position, continued to fire effectively in support of the attackers and was instrumental in preventing enemy reinforcements from reaching the scene of action. The expert gunnery displayed by him contributed in large measure to the success of the mission. Sergeant IVES' outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Pennsylvania.
