Bronze Star
HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 250- 4 July 1951
AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men:
FIRST LIEUTENANT JOSEPH P. ST. CLAIR, 059325, Infantry, Company "D", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 24 April 1951, in the vicinity of Sinsan-ni, Korea, Lieutenant St. CLAIR'S recoilless rifle platoon was in general support of the 1st Battalion. While still in the assembly area, they were unexpectedly attacked by the enemy and subjected to severe automatic weapons fire. Seeing one of his men wounded, Lieutenant St. CLAIR, completely exposing himself to the enemy fire, helped him to safety. At this time the platoon's defense crumbled and the troops hastily withdrew, leaving their heavy weapons behind as they sought cover from the blistering enemy assault. Realizing the seriousness of such action, Lieutenant ST. CLAIR, forcefully reorganized his dispirited troops and led them to recover their abandoned equipment and establish a stable line of defense. Lieutenant St. CLAIR'S aggressive leadership and heroic determination reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
