GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 139 - 14 MAY 1951
First Lieutenant ORLANDO ORTIZ MORENO, 0934461, Infantry, Heavy Mortar Company, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 24 April 1951, near Yonchon, Korea, an unknown number of enemy overran a front line company's position and engaged a reserve company in hand to hand combat. The enemy could not be brought under artillery or mortar fire because of the proximity of friendly elements. Lieutenant Ortiz Moreno, realizing the seriousness of the situation, and with complete disregard for his own safety, exposed himself to heavy enemy fire to locate the enemy positions and find a route of escape for the beleaguered company. The heroic actions of Lieutenant Ortiz Moreno reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
