AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men:
FIRST LIEUTENANT MARIO URDANETA, 02025185, Mediacal Service Corps, Medical Company, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 27 April 1951, near Hill 272, Lieutenant URDANETA, acting as Assistant Battalion Surgeon, efficiently supervised and directed the work of the medical aidmen and litter teams. Foreseeing heavy enemy attacks, he went to obtain more litter jeeps and set up an ambulance collecting point at the base of the hill. Disregarding enemy sniper and mortar fire, after the foe had attacked in force, Lieutenant URDANETA directed the successful evacuation of casualties from the front lines to the collection point. Lieutenant URDANETA'S heroism and foresight reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
