GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 382 - 30 December 1952

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Corporal JOE ALICEA, US51121812, Infantry, Heavy Mortar Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the afternoon of 15 July1952, Corporal ALICEA, a wireman, was working on a friendly communications line on a hill in the vicinity of Umjich'on, Korea, when he observed three friendly trucks being subjected to hostile artillery fire on a nearby road. Immediately and unhesitatingly, Corporal ALICEA, ignored the hostile fire and advanced into the shell-torn area to assist the drivers of the vehicles. Upon reaching the vehicles and discovering that they were abandoned, he disregarded his personal safety and oblivious to the enemy fire, he recovered one truck by driving it backward down the hill to a covered position. He then returned to the devastated area and attempted to retrieve the remaining vehicles, but the intense hostile fire had rendered them inoperative, and he was forced to return to friendly positions. The courage and untiring devotion to duty displayed by Corporal ALICEA were responsible for the recovery of a valuable vehicle and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal service from NEW YORK.
