GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 353 - 3 December 1952

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Private GERMAN VALENTIN, US50110959, Infantry, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the afternoon of 14 July 1952, while checking a friendly communications line on a hill in the vicinity of Sangok, Korea. Private VALENTIN was informed that his Battalion Commander lay seriously wounded in an exposed area being subjected to an intense enemy artillery and mortar barrage. He unhesitatingly, with complete disregard for his personal safety, rushed down the hill through the deadly hostile fire in search of the wounded officer. Upon locating the Battalion Commander he administered first aid and again exposed himself to the fierce enemy fire as he quickly moved about the shell-torn area in search of an assistant to help him in the evacuation. When a volunteer had been located, he again endangered his life as he and his comrade moved through the shrapnel torn area and successfully evacuated the wounded officer. Private VALENTIN'S outstanding heroism and untiring devotion to duty was instrumental in saving the life of his commanding officer and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal service from Puerto Rico.
