Bronze Star
HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 376 - 26 December 1952
AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:
Private ROBERTO FIGUEROA DIAZ, US50111914, Infantry, Company "I", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. In the early morning hours of 23 July 1952, members of a five man reconnaissance patrol of Company "I", of which Private FIGUEROA DIAZ was a member, were returning from a night mission when they entered an unmarked mine field, in the vicinity of Yangjinchon, Korea. Private FIGUEROA DIAZ, while walking in a single file formation, stepped on and detonated a mine. The explosion painfully wounded him, killed another man and perilously wounded two other members. Despite his painful wounds, he insisted upon helping to administer medical aid to the other casualties and with complete disregard for his personal safety, he moved about the mined area rendering first aid to his comrades. The outstanding heroism and selfless actions displayed by Private FIGUEROA DIAZ minimized the effects of the wounds sustained by his fellow soldiers, and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal service from Puerto Rico.
