GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 186 - 11 June 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:
PRIVATE FIRST CLASS FRANCISCO GONZALEZ SANTA, ER30445616, Infantry, Company "B", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 27 April 1951, near Uijongbu, Korea, Private GONZALEZ SANTA, gunner on a 57 millimeter recoilless rifle, and his company were crossing open terrain to escape encircling enemy forces when intense automatic fire from a building to their front pinned them down. Private GONZALEZ SANTA, realizing the seriousness of the situation, deliberately exposed himself to the hail of fire as he carefully aimed and fired his lone remaining round into the building, destroying the enemy position and enabling the company to resume its march to safety. The heroism and professional skill displayed by Private GONZALEZ SANTA reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
