Bronze Star
HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 188 - 13 JUNE 1951
PRIVATE FIRST CLASS JUAN H. SANTIAGO, US50100079, Infantry, Company "F", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 31 March, 1951 as Company "F" was attacking enemy positions on Hill 398, the leading elements came under intense enemy grenade and automatic weapons fire. Private SANTIAGO, a messenger in the rear area, voluntarily left the comparative safety of the rear and dashed to the most forward position where he engaged the enemy by throwing grenades and firing his weapon. Exhausting his supply of grenades, he made repeated trips to the rear of the platoon to procure more all of which he used with telling effect on the enemy. When a squad on his right initiated an assault, he voluntarily joined it in the attack and was wounded durring the assault. The gallantry displayed by Private SANTIAGO reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
