HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION

GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 566   7 December 1951

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men :

FIRST LIEUTENANT EULOGIO L. ORTIZ, 01284382, Infantry, Company "B", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 7 October 1951, Company "B" manned a defensive line and established platoon perimeters near Chorwon, Korea. That night, the enemy made a probing attack in company strength, utilizing small arms, grenades and mortars. Lieutenant ORTIZ, heedless of the intense fire, fearlessly moved about in an effort to determine the extent of enemy infiltration and the direction from which the hostile troops were attacking in greatest strength. He encouraged the men and directed their fire for maximum effect, remaining in the area of greatest danger until daybreak; at that time, he led a searching patrol which disclosed three enemy dead, evidences of others wounded, abandoned weapons and grenades. The heroism and inspiring actions of Lieutenant ORTIZ reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
